From time to time we have to have family convos. Growing up those were always defining moments for our family. Big decisions were discussed and major plans were made at those meetings. They didn’t happen often in my home, so when they did they were always a big deal. My hope is that during the message this week our family conversation will be defining moment for us as a community. If you missed it…you can catch it here Remedy – Week 3.
So many of us have jumped in to Thursday nights for the first time or have come back after being gone for a long time. That makes for a weird experience. If you’re like me and you are coming to something that is new to you it seems like you are the only one thats NEW! That usually ends up in a scan around the room an us deciding that just about everyone in the room Belongs…but you.
You’re not alone! And you Belong!
We are committed to creating environments for young adults (like you) to experience God, Meet God, Grow with God, and Go with God. So what does that mean for you? Well first…you’re way ahead of the game now because you know why we do what we do!
Where does that leave you? That leave all of us in the same boat…we Belong. When we get in our car we don’t ever think ‘I wonder if I belong here?’ And what we all need to know is that PURE is just like our cars. It Belongs to you! What’s different than your car is that it doesn’t just belong to you…it belongs to US.
When we belong we act different. We engage and participate differently than when we are visiting or just observing. One of my favorite things about community based on Jesus is that it isn’t a spectator sport. In order for it work right we all have to play.
Paul, in 1 Corinthians 12, says it best (this is just part of the passage, you should read the whole thing):
12-13 You can easily enough see how this kind of thing works by looking no further than your own body. Your body has many parts—limbs, organs, cells—but no matter how many parts you can name, you’re still one body. It’s exactly the same with Christ. By means of his one Spirit, we all said good-bye to our partial and piecemeal lives. We each used to independently call our own shots, but then we entered into a large and integrated life in which he has the final say in everything. (This is what we proclaimed in word and action when we were baptized.) Each of us is now a part of his resurrection body, refreshed and sustained at one fountain—his Spirit—where we all come to drink. The old labels we once used to identify ourselves—labels like Jew or Greek, slave or free—are no longer useful. We need something larger, more comprehensive.
So what now? Live like you Belong. You Belong at PURE, Because PURE Belongs to You.
